RE: Extended Warranties

Does anybody know of anyone who had an extended warranty and used it successfully? As I stated. I was able to get a reimbursment from my insurer less the $50.00 deductable. The total cost was a bit more than $749.00 I was refunded $695.00. If you have the time and patience go for it. Otherwise put the bucks in the bank and use it to pay for your repairs. One other thing you should know.... These are NOT Extended Warranties as the term implies.... You are purchasing INSURANCE. READ IT CAREFULLY. They make their money by NOT paying the claims.

RE: Extended Warranties

Hate to admit it, but I puchased one at the same time I made the deal on my 5th. I did not take the time to really look it over, and in retrospect, I would probably not do it again. So many of the things that you are likely to need it for are not covered. Most of the items it does cover are already covered by the manufacturer for the first few years. And the biggest reason not to buy is the stipulations the warranty/insurer puts on you. I had one need to use mine for a spring/suspension issue. They would not cover the suspension because the springs didn't actually break, they were only flat. I spent more than a week trying to get to someone with enough knowledge to know that things can be broken and not actually be broke. Then I had to deal with the fact that the repair facility completed the repairs before an inspection of the springs by the insurer could be completed. The shop tried to explain to them that they had to remove the springs to inspect, and could not leave the trailer in the bay for days waiting for them to come out. Bottom line is I finally did get paid but it was a really frustrating experience. Hope this is helpful to you.

RE: Water Heater

Don't know if this will be a help or not. I have heard that the loss of an air space in the heater can cause this type of problem. Drain the tank using the drain plug. Install the plug and refill. Be sure it has cooled down before attempting to drain.

RE: HELP ! New Direct TV Satelite and can't get it working

My Thanks to all who have offered their help. I have pretty much concluded that I have a mechanical problem here. Either the cables I am using are bad, or the LNB is defective. I don't have anymore time right now to try and resolve, so I can only thank all of you for all your help, and pass on satellite service until I get home from my trip. Barry

RE: HELP ! New Direct TV Satelite and can't get it working

I do have a satellite finder very much like the model shown. I have been able to get it to sound off from time to time, but still nothing shows when I connect to the TV and the TV signal strength meters still show zero signal. I am unable to climb up to the Dish set up on my roof. But have tried to judge about where it is pointed and I do seem to be close enough that I should be getting some sort of signal.

RE: HELP ! New Direct TV Satelite and can't get it working

Is there anyway to test the LNB. I have connected the Direct TV cable from the Receiver directly to the LNB and still do not get any signal strength. I also noticed there are two connections on the LNB. Both look the same, is there any particluar one I should be using ? P.S. I don't know how old the dish and LNB are. They came off my sons house a few years ago and have just been in my storage unit.

RE: HELP ! New Direct TV Satelite and can't get it working

Chuck, Thanks. I have my dish pointing as close to between 180 & 181 as I can tell. My elevation is set on 50 degree as shown on the scale provided on the dish. I have attempted to tilt it a degree or two up and down with a few seconds at each point and still all 32 transponders show zero signal strength on satellite 101. Still don't know how to tell if I have a hardware (LNB) problem, cable problem, or just don't know what I'm doing. Thanks for the info. If you think of something else I'll be here still trying.

HELP ! New Direct TV Satelite and can't get it working

I have spent weeks trying to prove that this setup works before leaving on a long trip. I made a PVC low profile dish mount like was shown here on RV.net. I have a Direct TV round dish with a single LNB. I have a 3 foot cable from the LNB (labeled TFC-T10 File #E86650-2 CATV (UL) 6 series 18 AWG). I have a satelite finder kit and have tried to use the meter it came with, as well as the signal strength meter displayed on the tv. Neither has been able to provide any help. I have used the cable from the house installed receiver to attach to the cable coming from the LNB using a screw together connector. Not sure what this is called but it is made to screw two cable ends together. I know for a fact that the TV, Receiver, and this cable work because they are used daily on my home setup. What I cannot seem to determine is whether the Dish, LNB, or other cable is working because I can never get any signal. My ZIP code is 76137 and if I read the directions correctly, I should point the dish at Magnetic compass setting of 198. The dish base should be leveled and then the angle set to 51 degrees. Remember this is an upside down setup using the low profile PVC stand. Can anyone help me figure this out ??? At this point I am really out of patience and understanding.

RE: Stained Glass Replacement for Entrance Door

I have to vote for the ArtScape (TM) material that I bought at Home Depot. It is a window film that easily attaches and can be later removed if desired. I removed the inside trim on mine and applied the film. Then I trimmed the film and replaced the trim. Looks better than anything I could have made using real glass, can be changed as my decor changes, and does not alter the original glass door material.

Sofa twin size fitted sheets

Here is my problem. I have a twin size sofa bed in my trailer and would like to find fitted sheets to use. The problem doesn't seem to be finding the length and width. I measured the mattress and it is 71 inches long by 37 inches wide. Where I am having the problem is finding any sheets with a pocket of 4 or 5 inches. The mattress as it is now is 4 inches thin and I do have a 1 inch foam pad I can add. Does anyone know where to buy sheets with pockets only this thin ? All I have been able to find have been 12-15 inches. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

RE: Louvered Tailgate Recommendations???

I have owned and used the Custom Flow for a couple of years. Can't offer a comparison on others since this is all I have owned. No problems with the Custom Flow, but I do still have to lower it to pull under the pin. My pin is about one inch to low to clear the "V" when the plate is at the proper height. Don't know whether it saves any fuel, but it is considerably lighter than the stock tailgate.

RE: Kipor IG2000P Generator Question

Wanted to say thanks to all who provided their opinion. Made the puchase. (total $833.00) Do agree that the sound quality is different than the Honda, but sound level does seem to be comparable. I will try to get back to this topic after the first year and let everyone know what my feelings are in regards to quality and performance as we travel the US. Thanks again.

Kipor IG2000P Generator Question

Here goes another question about the Kipor generators. I have a relative that works for Coast Distributors. She tells me she can get me two (2) IG2000P generators, one parallel kit, and one generator adapter pigtail. for the total price of less than $900.00. For those who may have a Coast catalog the stock numbers are 66604, 66624, and 14397. Can any of you out there that either have this setup, or are running a single IG2000P or a IG3000 please tell me what you think about this deal. I have seen and heard the comments about the quality of the Kipor, and I am of the impression that they have greatly improved since the early years. Since the relative is a Coast distributor she tells me I would have NO problems with warranty issues because warranty is based on serial numbers, and the only problems were with units that were bought by people prior to Coast taking over the distribution for North America. There is a repair concern due to limited locations of authorized repair stations, but for the price I don't think that this should be a deal killer. Please respond to the topic !. I know there are other gensets out there, I know people like their Hondas, I know the construction grade gens are cheaper. What I don't know is if the offer being made is a good deal. Sorry if I affend anyone wanting to discuss their choice but I really only need to know about this setup. Thanks.

RE: aerosol cans

I have never had an issue with spray cans, but I have had soda cans explode in the summer heat. Quite a mess to clean up after they have been drying for days on the carpet.

RE: Wall Covering

Had the same problem with a prior unit of mine. Texas sun caused it to peel. I found that a spray can of 3M adhesive worked best for me. I sprayed it on the wall board and then used a paint roller to smooth the covering back in place. Be careful not to spray on the wallpaper as it will cause it to melt (soften) and stretch as you re-apply.

RE: Rubber Roof

Not sure you have provided enough information. Do you actually have a rubber roof ? Perhaps it is some other material.

The long long trip !!!

First let me apologize for the long itinerary. Hope you all can hang in there long enogh to offer advise. I am planning to leave the Dallas/Ft Worth area on or about October 6. I will be headed for Las Vegas Nevada ( 1st Major layover). From there I plan on continuing North to the Virgina City/ Lake Tahoe area. (Concerned about road conditions this late in the year) I will probably spend a few days in the Lake Tahoe area, and then move on to St Helena, California (Just North of Napa). I will spend a week or so there, then begin the journey South to DisneyLand (Anaheim) and after the body can take no more of that fun, on to San Diego. Probaly a week of so there. Final leg will be the return trip home along the southern route (I-10). I really have no need to be back in Fort Worth before mid November, so time is not an issue, but do not plan on pushing it hard on any driving days. I would appreciate anyones input as to routes, road and weather conditions, or sights of interest along the way. This is the first BIG retirement trip. Hope to have many years of these to come. Thanks, all.

What kind of drill for emergency slide operation ?

I have seen where many people have used an electric drill and socket to operate their slides when the motor has failed or is no longer able to open or close a slide. I would like to purchase something that I could carry with me to have as a backup. I have never much cared for the battery operated tools as they usually have a dead battery when I go to use them. I have found it impossible to keep them on a charger all the time, and never need them when they are freshly charged. Can someone offer another solution ? The last time I had to move my slide I used a socket and ratchet. It was more of a "stuck" situation than a complete failure so only a few turns on the socket was enough to loosen the bind and I was able to let the regular system do the remainder of the move. Would a normal 110V electric drill be as good ? I will most likely be within distance of an outlet, or a portable generator for power. Does anyone know if a drill is made with a 90 degree chuck ? Thanks, Slotsavegas
